So the developer is supposed to come up with the idea and the code!

(I can do a selections process that has winning runs - just pick the favourite! Can I have my £250 please??)

I see someone has posted a requirement for a betfair/betdaq arbitrage bot on the "rent a coder" site:

"i want software that can run on Betfair and Betdaq betting exchanges , i want the software to track different events in the above two bettting exchanges and search for arbitrage chances.  i would like the software to be simliar to arbscan which is similar to the above + opens both of the above betting exchanges and can track arbitrage chances and take these chances immediatley as when arbitrage are found they don't last long so i would like to set the amount and click one button and instantly back and lay to make the profit if you have any.  This should be relatively simple for anyone with experience in this field.  Contact me fif you have any questions.  i would have to have 100% copyright to this software when it is completed."

Not an unreasonable requirement.  But the maximum they're willing to pay is $100 (£51).  And rentacoder would take 15% of that, so the lucky bot writer would receive a maximum of £43.  Very attractive I'm sure.

People like that is the exact reason why i own a redundant website that was *supposed* to make me a nice living when i bought it.

I was looking at rent a coder, mainly to see if i could see anyone with an interesting idea horses etc.

Before you ask, no there isnt. Well nothing along the lines of the idea i had anyway.

What I did notice is there are a few ideas in there that are of interest but most betting api projects get cancelled. Does anyone know why? Is it because they cant get the ppl with the skills, they dont pay enough, or is it just that coders think the ideas are baked?

I suspect it's because they underestimate the amount of work involved in getting a bot up and running.
The chances of someone being able to come up with a spec/design that doesn't turn into a moving target needing an on going series of iterations and constant discussions between the designer and coder is, in my opinion, pretty slim.

People get paranoid about their 'systems' too ... I had one guy wanting me to sign an NDA before he'd describe the thing to me so I could give an estimate. As if ... :)

I spose its a bit like the chicken and the egg since if you had a clue how hard it is to do it, then you'd probably have the experience to do it yourself.
