what exactly does this mean????

Separately Betfair may levy a premium charge on your account should the amount of commission (together with any other Fees described in these Terms and Conditions) generated in respect of your account be less than a specified percentage of profits you have made over a given period of time. Again we will use reasonable endeavours to inform you if your activity incurs a premium charge.

other than 'if you're making a lot of money we reserve the right to taker a chunk of it'
???

Cut out the bullshit and you're left with:

So yes, it's another "Winners not welcome" scheme.

bizarre ... not that it's going to affect me since i pay about the same in commission as I net myself ...

err ... in the long term that is ... so how long is "over a given period of time" and what is the "specified percentage"??

If the time period were short they could just decide to charge me if say i had a god month???

On second thoughts, it looks more like a scheme to tackle those who use well known methods to decrease their commission by taking advantage of the 0.49p round-down. So i guess what they're saying is that if you're commission rate is 5% and you've made £10,000 profit, you *should* have paid £500 commission. If you've done a bit of dodgy rounding and only paid £400, they'll be askling for the other £100...

I've been watching the betfair forum all day. Exciting times, though I feel a bit left out as I had an email to say I wouldn't be affected ;) Could be worthwhile dusting off my daqbot again I suppose...

Hoorah for Betdaq, i've recently opened an account there for poker cos they are on a network that offers a Java client and rakeback. Having said that, if i were to develop another sports bot, i think i'd go for WBX...

Fred do you have any sample code for the betdaq API ? Just had a look at their API docs and not exactly well written are they :(

I've only got this old script, should still work though http://fred77.co.uk/downloads/betdaq.txt

It's all a bit confusing, but from what I gather you only pay extra if your charges (commission fees + data) in a 60-week period are < 20% of your profits (gross wins - gross losses).

So I guess if you're a serious player making 5 times more in net profit than you're paying in commission you'll get charged.

I'll worry about it when I get to making 5* what I pay in commission ... 'till then ...

Anyone know how you go about closing a betfair account? There's nothing abvious within the "My Account" page. Undecided

I've just posted some Python code in the code snippets section to access the Betdaq API (at least some of it). It's pretty rough but should give you a nudge in the right direction.

Cheers,
Toothy.

There seems to be some betdaq traffic about - either the network or betdaq is groaning under the strain, it's taking over 800ms for some bet calls to return (and thats using the call that doesn't wait for the full receipt).

edit: oooh we now have post editing

Yeah, how cool. Noticed it this morning. Smile

I imagine betdaq will be gaining a LOT of ex-betfair customers, but how long will they stay? If betdaq can't supply the bandwidth the customers demand, then i suspect that most of them will return to betfair and treat the extra costs as bandwidth payments.

Just looked through my bot logs, betdaq got even slower for me yesterday with some bet calls taking 1.4 seconds, maybe I'm just fond of speed but I certainly wouldn't want to be bot trading with delays like that.

Hi Fred,

you kindly posted some php code accessing the betdaq API but I it is giving me the same error as my attempts which is a code 307, SoapHeaderNotSupplied.

I have pointed your code to the .co.uk api but no success. Captain Sensible did you get errors too?

Hi ossi. I can confirm that the given code still works ok for me. The bit where I add the soap header is a bit odd, but I couldn't get it to work any other way (adding the header along with attributes). Are you using a recent version of PHP?

Fred, I am testing on PHP 5.1.6 on a linux virtual server and PHP 5.2.6 on a windows xp box. It's a really strange error. I have looked at the soap package and it seems to be correct but, if I point the request to the betdaq.com server I get a message that my username is not recognised, but if I point it to the co.uk server then I get the missing header error.
