Betdaq - general discussion

I've started this thread in order to discuss all things Betdaq. I'm very much against monopolized bully-boys, hence why i'm no longer using ANY Micro$haft products and hence why i'm becoming extremely uncomfortable with Betfair.

I decided to try the Betdaq API, but getting access is looking a bit unlikely at present. If you go to the main API page HERE you'll discover that you must subscribe and be approved for API access. From what i recall, this is something new? I have applied for access, but received a slightly aggressive email stating that i must have a funded account and must be an active user. I replied stating that, to date, i have only used Betdaq for poker and that if they care to check, my poker account is quite well funded. Mind you, that could be a sore point because i've withdrawn more than i've deposited, but it's not MY fault that i'm an above average poker player. lol. So i'm currently waiting (2 days so far), for acception into the betdaq API and if they don't pull their fingers out, i'll just webscrape it instead.

On a slightly different note, i've also been a bit disappointed with Betdaq's help system. For about 6 months, i've been unable to load up the betting pages correctly in Firefox on my Ubuntu box...and having sent several mail to 'customer support', they have basically suggested clearing history/cache/cookies and then said 'sorry, you have a none standard operating system, so we cannot help you'.

I'm currently running Ubuntu 8.10 and Firefox 3.0.5. Most of the betdaq site loads ok but the left hand menu, 'ExchangeBet', 'XpressBet' and 'MultipleBet' pages all fail to load correctly. Other pages are fine (including the market view if i click 'Next Horse Race'), but with no menu and no home page, i can't actually place a bloody bet! Just installed the Epiphany web browser and betdaq works fine...and although the Epiphany browser is very much like Firefox (but much more lightweight), it doesn't appear to support bookmarks in the Firefox style (in the sidebar and all links nicely categorized into folders). As posted elsewhere on this forum, a screenshot is below. This was the same after a complete format and fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10 without ANY firefox add-ons. Any suggestions?

No suggestions spring to mind (other than the ones you've tried). If it helps I have Betdaq running fine under FF3.0.5 on ubuntu 8.04 (Thinkpad Laptop), 8.10 and 8.10 64bit (Acer Desktop dual boot). Can't understand why a reformat/reinstall didn't fix it. If you need any settings checked, let me know.

I don't understand it either. Did yours work ok 'out of the box'? I'd use Epiphany if i could get the bloody bookmarks done firefox stylee, but Google is suggesting it's not yet possible. The only thing i can think of is that mine is a minor hardware misconfiguration. I think i'll try removing Firefox and install it fresh to see if it makes any difference. Shouldn't do, but ya never know...

Regarding the API...is anyone using Betdaq or is everyone still on Betfair? Must admit WBX is also tempting, especially considering there's no official API yet. Wink

betdaq is fine here too, never had any problem like that. FF 3.0.5 on ubuntu 8.10, works fine out the box on desktop and laptop (though needed flash adding). Only bother I've had with firefox was with the information pages at betfair a while back.

Well bugger me, i just completey removed all traces of Firefox, rebooted, reinstalled, and now it's bloody working. There's obviously something not quite right with the default install on my pc. Have had to install the Adobe flash plugin but seems fine otherwise. So now i can place a couple of 2 quid bets and satisfy betdaq's "you must be an active user to qualify for API" rules. lol

I asked for access to the Betdaq API just before Christmas. Took them about 6 days to get back to me saying that my account had been activated for API access. Now all i have to do is get it all to work!

Has anyone got something working with the betdaq API and Python (my preferred language). I have been making no progress at all today on getting anything working. I tried using PHP and that was simple - so I know that I must be doing something silly.

(Why do I find things just after I post! I was trying to use my betdaq.com username on the betdaq.co.uk site)
